Update

Several current and former club officers met October 19th to discuss the club's finances and outlook.
This is being written before the meeting so I can't tell you the outcome. There is a desire on everybody's part, though, to clear all liabilities from the books and explore the possibility of holding a possibly smaller show next year.
As was discussed at the last meeting, a dealer has also expressed interest in running the show.
More details will be available at our October 17th meeting.

October speaker

Evan had to cancel his planned talk on British type coins at the last minute because of a personal problem involving an elderly relative.
This month's meeting will be an extended show and tell. Bring something new or old to the meeting and give a short talk on it - even just a couple minutes will do.
We've done this in the past and it's been really interesting to learn a bit about what everyone else is collection.

Auction

Auctioneers: Charles and Steve
Lots: Send November auction lots to Steve by November 12th

Quiz

Jeff's October quiz is called Really Old Stuff.
Jeff is going in for surgery to correct some old football injuries at the turn of the year and will be out of commission for a few months. He plans on working ahead though and creating quizzes for the months while he's away.
Topic of the November 21st quiz is Miscellany.

New Meeting Place maybe

Geoff has been checking out the old Westerville Athletic Club. The new owner has offered to host community meetings free. So this may be a good thing for us. We currently give a $1,000 scholarship to Grandview Heights each year for use of the building.

Coin World shrinks

Coin World's 30-year-old presses in Sidney are just about beyond repair. The company is switching to a Cincinnati press and reducing the size of the paper to a more magazinelike 8 1/2 by 11 inches.
I'll show a prototype at the the meeting.
The prototype is a collector's item in and of itself. Just a few were printed, mostly for advertisers. My copy will be the last item in today's action, with the proceeds going to the club.

Grading SIG

The Grading Sig will be grading Mercury Dimes at Dan's show in Powell on October 21st. Please bring Mercury dimes for grading. This is a club activity and is open to all club members.
For details contact Tony at
Tony plans to hold Grading SIG meetings regularly at Dan's shows.

New Webmaster

Eric is taking over administration of the club's Web site - www.cnscoins.com

U.S. mint sets

The Mint finally got around to offering the 2007 26-coin mint set on October 9th.
The set has stain-finsh Philadelphia and Denver mint cents, nickels, dimes, halves, Sacagwea dollars, state quarters and presidential dollars - everything but the first spouse gold pieces.
The set is priced at $22.95. Last year's 20-coin set was priced at $16.95.
This year's set also has new packaging that^Òs more attractive and provides views of all three sides of coins.

Coin values

If you own an 1804 eagle, the price just went up.
David Albanese sold one of four known for $5 million in a private sale in October.
The same coin, which came from one of the famous 1804 proof sets that Andrew Jackson ordered up in 1835, sold for $1 million in 2003 and again in 2005 for $2.47 million.
